Plastic bags, old tires, Styrofoam to-go containers - the once-ubiquitous staples of shoreline trash are rapidly diminishing, thanks to recycling and legislative bans.

Now it's cigarette butts' turn.

Saturday is Coastal Cleanup Day and environmental groups this year are pushing for a fee on cigarettes that would offset the costs of cleaning up the yellowed, plastic filters smokers leave behind.
