Ron Gonzales Joins Save The Bay Board of Directors

September 19, 2012

Save The Bay, the oldest and largest regional organization working to protect and restore San Francisco Bay, announced today that former San Jose mayor RonGonzales has joined its Board of Directors.

“We are honored that Ron is lending his extensive regional knowledge and political experience to help us make San Francisco Bay healthier for people and wildlife,” said Save The Bay Executive Director David Lewis.  “Ron’s political skills and commitment to building community are great assets for our work to improve the Bay.”

A Bay Area native, Gonzales has served as mayor of both San Jose and Sunnyvale, where he championed innovative public education, transportation, housing, and safety programs. He was also a member of the Santa Clara Board of Supervisors from 1989-1996. As an executive at Hewlett-Packard Company, Gonzales was founding program manager of a pioneering national education partnership with local school districts and universities to increase the number of women and minority students pursuing engineering careers.

“I have followed and admired the ‘Save The Bay’ movement for decades,” said Gonzales.  “The Bay’s beauty and open space make this area a very desirable place to live and work, but many people take it for granted.  We all can do more to improve the Bay, and give more people access to enjoy it.”

Gonzales currently serves as President and CEO of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, an organization working to improve the quality of life for Latinos in the Silicon Valley region through education, elder services, and leadership programs. He also founded and currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Presencia, LLC, a Hispanic-owned technology business that provides executive level marketing and sales consulting services in a variety of markets.

Gonzales graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and the Mayors Leadership Institute at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.  He is the Founder of The Role Model Program, for which he received a National “Daily Points of Light Award.”

Gonzales joins current board members Wade Crowfoot, Michael Dreyfus, Brian Dunn, Donnie Fowler, Michael Gallagher, Michael Katz (chair), Sandy Linder, Maureen E. Reilly, Christopher Richard, Paul A. Stone, Stephen Thompson and Sinclair White.
