Community Outreach Fellow/s

Save The Bay is seeking 1-2 Community Outreach Fellows from June through October 2017 to help prepare and execute our 2nd annual BAY DAY on Saturday October 7, 2017.

Bay Day is an official day for the entire region to come together and celebrate what we love about the Bay. Last year, we reached 2 million people in-person and online, and 39 cities declared Bay Day as an official annual celebration. Save The Bay works with Community Partners - fellow nature and science nonprofits like Exploratorium and Aquarium of the Bay, as well as for profits like kayaking specialists, Sea Trek, and outdoor experts, REI - to deliver Bay conservation and celebration experiences around 50+ Bay Area locations. This year we will also be producing our own “hub events” in major Bay Area locations, as well as providing an online activity component.

As an active member of Save The Bay’s Development staff you will join a small, talented team of non-profit fundraising and event-management professionals, gaining hands-on experience in community outreach, event planning and logistics, and partner engagement.

Working directly with the Events & Outreach Manager, the Fellow/s will assist with community outreach and partner engagement, helping with the following types of activities:

  • event programming and logistics
  • vendor research and relationships
  • image gathering
  • website content updates
  • community partner fulfillment
  • canvassing outreach
  • merchant and collateral fulfillment

The Community Outreach Fellow will also gain valuable experience in social media engagement, marketing/PR, and professional writing as you will also work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team.


  • Outgoing personality comfortable with meeting new people, answering the phone, and presenting a professional face for the organization
  • Strong writing, communication and organizational skills
  • Experience and/or interest in event planning and community outreach
  • Ability to complete tasks independently
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft office, outlook, google docs, etc.) and willingness to learn online project management tools
  • Interest in San Francisco Bay environmental issues
  • Enthusiasm for Save The Bay’s mission and programs
  • Willingness for local travel around the Bay Area
  • Valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record

Commitment & Benefits:

  • Ability to commit an average of 16 hours per week during normal business hours
  • 8-12 week minimum commitment June through August and/or August through October 2017  (note: a 20 week, June-October commitment for this position is available and preferred)
  • Save The Bay’s offices are located in bustling downtown Oakland near 12th Street Bart, opposite City Hall
  • Transportation reimbursement is available
