Summer Workshop: Ecology In Education
June 30th & July 1st 2008

Save The Bay invites you to join us for our two-day workshop, Ecology In Education, as we explore the richness and splendor of San Francisco Bay, from the East Bay to the South. During this workshop, you will be introduced to our watershed and Bay ecology through our Canoes In Sloughs and Community-based Restoration programs.

This workshop is ideal for educators and teachers of grades 5 and up. You will learn about the abundance of wildlife and habitat that unites the entire Bay Area, have a chance to network with other educators who share this interest, and receive a wealth of resource materials, including Save The Bay’s standards-matched curriculum. Save The Bay's Summer Workshop will be an experience you won't soon forget!

Day 1: Canoes In Sloughs, South Bay

  • Explore the San Francisco Bay Estuary by canoe
  • Discover our connections to the Bay and its watershed
  • Learn more about the Bay ecosystem, wildlife, and wetland habitat
  • Apply experiential learning techniques with fun hands-on activities
  • Gather ideas on using the Bay as an integrating concept


Day 2: Community-Based Restoration, East Bay

  • Participate in hands-on restoration of vital wetland habitat
  • Learn how to incorporate and utilize service-learning projects
  • Discuss current issues facing the Bay
  • Participate in hands-on restoration of vital wetland habitat


Who Should Participate?

Educators (5th grade and up) interested in incorporating Bay and watershed education into their work. Educators who are interested in addressing the California State Content Standards, using the San Francisco Bay as an integrating concept.

No canoeing experience or special skills are necessary.

Registration
The cost for the workshop is $50, which includes a non-refundable deposit of $25. Scholarships are available. Download and print the registration form.

Fees Include:

  • A day of canoeing in the wetlands of the South Bay
  • A day of restoration in the wetlands of the East Bay
  • Experienced outdoor educators, certified in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and canoe safety
  • Paddling and  restoration instruction (no experience necessary)
  • Paddling & Restoration Equipment
  • Snacks
  • Save The Bay’s Watershed Curriculum & Journal
