Speak Out!  Write a Letter to the Editor.

One of the most effective ways to illustrate public opposition to Cargill’s destructive development is to keep the issue alive in the news. By writing blog posts, calling in to radio stations, and sending in Letters-to-the-Editor, you can help build public pressure that is critical to eventual success.

Letter writing tips:

  • Write to your own local paper, rather than another region’s. It’s much more likely to be printed.
  • Keep it short and to the point: Make sure you follow the papers’ length guidelines.
  • Include your name, address, and daytime phone. This information won’t be printed.
  • Share a memory of the Bay: Did you grow up fishing along the Bay shore? Participate in a restoration project? Experience one of the previous bay-fill projects? Let readers know what motivates you.
  • Tell why you’re opposed to the development. Paving over the Bay? Traffic? Water? You can use our Top Reasons to Oppose Cargill page as a reference.
  • Be creative!
