Clean Bay Project

Did you know that 80 percent of Bay pollution comes from of all us? With over seven million residents in the Bay Area, our small actions – using and discarding plastic bags and polystyrene packaging, inadvertently dropping trash in the street, and even washing our cars in the driveway – cause big pollution problems for the Bay.

The Clean Bay Project is Save The Bay's campaign to replicate innovative and effective municipal pollution prevention programs around the Bay. Working together, we can dramatically improve the health of our wetlands, shorelines and waterways with programs that:

Discourage the use of plastic bags and polystyrene food packaging
• Facilitate litter abatement to keep trash from entering our waterways
• Reduce oil, soap and other vehicle pollutants in stormwater runoff
• Reduce sewage overflows from reaching our creeks and the Bay

Partial funding for this project comes from the USEPA San Francisco Bay Water Quality Improvement Fund (2009) in collaboration with the San Francisco Estuary Partnership and ABAG.
