Save the Redwood City Salt Ponds

Minnesota-based agribusiness giant Cargill Inc. is threatening to fill in and build on 1,433 acres of Bayfront salt ponds in Redwood City. Tell Cargill that San Francisco Bay cannot be sacrificed for profit.

These former tidal wetlands must be included in the Don Edwards SF Bay National Wildlife Refuge to benefit residents and as wildlife habitat. Learn more.

Crissy FieldHealthy Bay Beaches

Save The Bay and other agencies are working to protect public health at beaches around San Francisco Bay. Learn more about beach water quality and how to check for public health warnings before you go to the beach.

Cosco Busan Spills Oil in the Bay

In November 2007, a freighter struck a support pillar of the Bay Bridge, spilling 58,000 gallons of heavy bunker fuel into the Bay. The largest Bay oil spill in a decade fouled beaches all around the Bay and the Pacific shoreline, damaging wildlife and habitat. Learn more.

Greening the Bay

We have a historic opportunity to secure a healthy future for San Francisco Bay for wildlife and people and reverse more than a century of degradation of our Bay. Save The Bay’s report spells out an ambitious plan to raise public funds in the Bay Area and restore thousands of acres of thriving wetlands on the shoreline. Find out more.

Keep It Clean!

The quality of life and economy in the Bay Area depend on a healthy and vibrant San Francisco Bay. And pollution from our own homes, cars and neighborhoods is one of the greatest threats to the Bay. Each year, for example, area residents contribute more motor oil to coastal waters than oil tankers. Visit our Keep It Clean! to learn how to stop the toxic runoff flowing into the Bay from cities and neighborhoods.

Bay Trash Hot Spots
A Keep It Clean! Initiative

Trash and marine debris threaten San Francisco Bay and the wildlife that depend on it. The world is starting to pay attention to marine debris. What are we doing about it here in the Bay Area? These Bay Trash Hot Spots show some of the worst trash pollution in San Francisco Bay.

They Don't Do It to You!
