About Bay Discovery

The BAY DISCOVERY program consists of a one-time restoration education field trip that connects students to the San Francisco Bay estuary and engages them in critical tidal marsh restoration. These day long field adventures help students to understand their local marshes, prompting them to examine the connections between themselves and our environment, and inspiring them to improve ecosystem health.

The BAY DISCOVERY program requirements: minimum 15 and maximum 35 students, grade levels: 5-12th; one teacher

Restoration Field Trips

These four hour service learning and stewardship trips invite students to discover the rich ecology of the Bay through educational lessons and seasonal restoration activities. Check out our map of local restoration sites and spread the word at your school by posting our flyer.

Classroom Lessons

Our optional pre-trip classroom lessons are designed to familiarize students with the San Francisco Bay salt marsh ecosystem, provide a basic overview of restoration ecology, and prepare your students for their salt marsh restoration field trip.

We encourage you to use our educational resources and downloadable lessons to bring the Bay to life in your classroom.

“Today I had a really fun day. I got to experience things I never thought I would. I got to see lots of wildlife such as bat rays, jackrabbits, hawks, squirrels, and chipmunks. Now that I know what I’m doing to their habitats I will take care of my trash.
